At the time of investing in this lens, I was moderately into the low distortion and the f stop. I had already owned the Canon 16-35mm f2.8 and the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, yet this lens offered a great low light, sharp and very low distorting option, which i still stand by.
What is very important about the low light for a wide angle is that it can be very difficult to get lights close to subjects without the lens seeing the light. You need the extra light for movies and this lens just has a very cinematic look to it.
